When we first think of spring, we think of bright warm colors, so that is what I hope you see; (regardless of how much snow may be piled in the parking lot).Bloom of Spring

This is a large 12×12 inch granny square that works up really quickly and is really beautiful!  Plus with it being made with Red Heart with Love it is super soft!  I think this would make a beautiful afghan!  and with the squares being so large it would not that that many for a decent sized blanket!  Or even a Granny Square Poncho!

Color changes listed in the pattern are there if you want to change colors at the same location I did, of course you can change them where ever you like.

Materials:
K/ 10 ½ / 6.50mm
Red Heart with Love

Gauge:
5HDC rows – 2inches
5HDC – 2inches

Stitches:
BL – Back Loop
SLST – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
BLSC – Back Loop Single Crochet
BLHDC – Back Loop Half Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet

Special Stitches:
Spike Stitch SC (Row2) – Insert hook in CH5 hole, pull up a loop, working over the top of the CH3 space, YO and pull through 2 to complete your SC. Tutorial by Moogly Blog can be found HERE

Spike Stitch SC (Row 13) – Insert your hook into row 10, pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops to complete your SC. Tutorial by Moogly Blog can be found HERE

Wrap around DC Cluster – Work 2DC, then work a 2DC Cluster around previously worked 2DC Tutorial by Moogly Blog can be found HERE

Front Post Modified Treble Crochet – FPMTR – YO 2x, insert hook front to back to front, YO and pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO pull through remaining 3 loops

4TR Cluster – *YO 2x, insert hook into ring, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through 2 loops* (there should be 2 loops on hook at this point) repeat from 3 additional times (for a total of 5 loops on the hook). YO and pull through 4 loops, YO pull through remaining 2 loops

5TR Cluster – *YO 2x, insert hook into ring, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through 2 loops* (there should be 2 loops on hook at this point) repeat from 4 additional times (for a total of 6 loops on the hook). YO and pull through 5 loops, YO pull through remaining 2 loops

Special note: I crochet rather loose and only do a CH2 to get the height of a FPMTR, so if you crochet tighter a CH3 might work betterBloom of Spring - KatiDCreationsBloom of Spring

CH5, Join with SLST in first CH.

Row 1: CH2 (counts as first TR), 4TR Cluster, CH 3, *5TR Cluster, CH3*, repeat from *to* until you have a total of 6TR Clusters. Finish off and join in the top of the first TR Cluster

Color Change
Row 2: Join in any CH3 space, *work 2SC, work 3 Spike Stitch SC stitches between TR Clusters, work 2 more SC in CH3 space*, repeat from *to* around. All stitches listed between *and * are worked in the same CH3 space. Finish off and Join. (42SC)

Color Change
Row 3: Join in BL of any stitch, BLSC around. Finish off and Join. (42SC)

Color Change
Row 4: Join in BL of any stitch, BLSC around. Join with SLST in first SC

Row 5: CH1, BLSC in same as joining and in next 5 stitches, work 2BLSC in next stitch, *BLSC in next 6 stitches, 2BLSC in next stitch*, repeat from *to* around. Finish off and Join. (48SC)

Change Color
Row 6: Working in both loops, working a Wrap Around DC Cluster, Join with a Standing DC in any stitch (DC in next stitch, work a Wrap Around Cluster around Standing DC and next DC to complete first Wrap Around Cluster stitch), CH3, *skip next 2 stitches, Wrap Around DC Cluster, CH3*, repeat from *to* around. Finish off and Join (12 Wrap DC Cluster)

Change Color
Row 7: Join in the BL of the first CH of any CH3 set, BLSC in same as joining, 2BLSC in next stitch, *BLSC in the next 17, 2BLSC in the next stitch*, BLSC in the next 16 stitches. Join in BL with SLST in first SC (76SC)

Row 8: CH1, BLHDC in same as joining, FPMTR, CH1, FPMTR, *BLHDC in next 17, FPMTR, CH1, FPMTR*, repeat from *to* around, BLHDC in last 16 stitches. Finish off and JoinBloom of Spring - KatiDCreations

Row 11: Join in the BL of any first SC after any FPMTR stitch, CH1, BLHDC in same as joining and next 16 stitches, FPMTR, DC in next stitch, work 2DC in next stitch, CH2, skip CH2 space, work 2DC in next stitch, DC in next stitch, FPMTR, *BLHDC in next 17 stitches, FPMTR, DC in next stitch, work 2DC in next stitch, CH2, skip CH2 space, work 2DC in next stitch, DC in next stitch, FPMTR*, repeat from *to* around. Join in BL with SLST in first HDC
