One of my earliest memories is sitting in an aluminum bass boat with my dad and brother with my fishing pole in hand, not having a care in the world.  Not sure how much fishing my dad was actual able to do, but I do remember having an absolutely wonderful time with my family!  As years went by our family of five would load up the camper with fishing gear, the 3 dogs and head out.  There are so many happy memories of camping and fishing and so I thought this would be the perfect tribute to my dad.  So thanks dad for so many wonderful memories, and here is to many more to come!

So enough of that, lets get on to the pattern!

  1. I am not understanding the step where you crochet into row 6 to start creating the sides. Could you post a video, or step by step pictures?

    • There is one photo currently in the post, I do not currently have any additional ones to add for your assistance. You work your stitches back into row 6, the same stitches that row 7 was worked into. Hopefully you find this helpful.

  2. 0–3 months: 15 inches
    6. CH1, HDC in same as joining and around, join with SS in first HDC (48)
    7. CH1, 2HDC in same as joining, HDC in next 5 stitches, *2HDC in next, HDC in next 5*, repeat from *to* around, join with SS in first HDC (56)

    THEN:

    Side of hat—-
    0-3 Months:
Working with right side of hat facing you, HDC in each stitch in the 6th row on the backside of the hat (48)
    1. CH1, HDC around, join in first HDC
    2. Repeat row 1 of ‘Side of Hat’ 4 more times

I’ve completed 56 stitches on top of hat. Moving to the SIDE OF HAT, where do I make decreases for 48 stitches?

    • you work the first row of ‘side of hat’ in row 6 of ‘top of hat’ row 6 only has 48 stitches in it.

  3. I absolutely love this, very easy, finished mine in an hour from start to finish!!! the finished product is adorable, I can’t thank you enough for sharing this!!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

    • So glad you love it! I probably need to revisit it as it was one of my first patterns that I wrote.

  4. How would I make this bigger for my 15 month old. His grandpa would get a kick out of this hat!!

    • Continue to increase the top of the hat until it is about 17 inches in circumference and then follow the directions to do the sides, just make sure to increase the number of rows so the sides are long enough.

  5. Hi! I am really not understanding the step where we work into the backside of the hat, moving onto the sides? Is there anyway you could help me understand it better by including more details? thank you

    • as you work the top of your hat, the side of the hat that is facing you is the right side. working the side of the hat will require you to work around the post of the stitch but you will have the wrong side of the hat facing you.
