Lovely Marie

The idea for this beautiful doll came to me quite unexpectedly during the middle of a conversation while visiting with my mom.  I seriously interrupted myself and started rambling on about the doll idea that just came to me.  I have no clue where the idea came from but like so many of my projects I was very excited to get working on her.  It was weird when the idea came to me I could see her clearly in my mind, how I wanted her to turn out exactly.  There was no reworking her or trying different takes on the idea, she simply was there. Complete.

And to make things even better my daughter Loves playing with her!

Now I had never crochet a doll before and as I was talking with the Designer from Simply Collectible Crochet who I knew was quite familiar with amigurumi crochet, informed me that regular worsted weight yarn and a small hook size is all that is needed.  And here I was thinking there was a special type of yarn and hook that needed to be used.  Silly me.

DSC – Decreasing Single Crochet (sc2tog)
BLSC – Back Loop Single Crochet
SLST – Slip Stitch

Materials Needed:
Worsted weight yarn – I used Loops & Thread Impeccable Yarn
Hook – E, F, G, I
Stitch Marker
Embroidery Needle
Stuffing

It is advised to read all of the directions prior to beginning.

After making the doll I found it to be much easier to attach the head/arms/legs/hair cap and then add the tutu and then the blanket, followed by attaching the hair.

*Note* – Make sure to stuff head/body, legs were ‘lightly’ stuffed and arms were not stuffed at all, prior to sewing together

*Note* – This pattern unless otherwise stated is worked in a continuous circle; use a stitch marker to keep your place. This will keep there from being a seam. The first stitch listed in each row is worked in the marked stitch.

  1. Cute doll! I have just started doing Amigurumi Christmas presents (deer, penguin, Olaf) for my grandchildren, they are so fun. I would like to know the finished length of the doll and also the dimensions of the blanket.
    Thanks, Gamma Marra

    • The doll is about 10 inches tall, and the blanket is about 13 inches square

  2. I am working on making this right now as we are expecting our first daughter soon, and I am working on the body and I’m having a hard time following the directions. Do you have any additional pictures of what the body is supposed to look like in the beginning, before the tutu?
